FORATOM welcomes Parliament’s COP 25 resolution
Brussels, 28 November 2019: FORATOM welcomes the decision by the European Parliament to adopt a COP 25 resolution which supports all technologies needed in the fight against climate change.
“We are delighted to see the European Parliament recognise the role which low-carbon nuclear has to play in meeting climate objectives and in ensuring security of supply” states FORATOM Director General Yves Desbazeille.
Both the IPCC (Global Warming of 1.5°C) and the IEA (Nuclear Power in a Clean Energy System) have made it very clear that decarbonisation goals cannot be achieved without nuclear energy. The European Commission (A Clean Planet for all) has confirmed that nuclear will form the backbone of a carbon-free European power system, together with renewables.
“Furthermore, the nuclear industry will continue to fully implement the best available waste management techniques as well as research and development into new solutions” adds Yves Desbazeille.
About us: The European Atomic Forum (FORATOM) is the Brussels-based trade association for the nuclear energy industry in Europe. The membership of FORATOM is made up of 15 national nuclear associations and through these associations, FORATOM represents nearly 3,000 European companies working in the industry and supporting around 1,100,000 jobs.
