nucleareurope joins ENEN 20th Anniversary celebration

On 22 September 2023, our Director General Yves Desbazeille was invited to speak during the ENEN 20th Anniversary event dedicated to ‘A European Dynamic on Nuclear Skills’.  

During his intervention, Yves provided an overview of the goal set by the Nuclear Alliance of having 150GW of nuclear capacity in the EU. In terms of jobs, this is expected to generate and maintain 1.3 million jobs per year, around 600,000 of which will be highly skilled.  As a result, demandd for new staff will be huge. Therefore all actors will need to work together to ensure that we have access to the skilled workforce required, otherwise meeting the 150GW target will prove challenging.  And by actors, this includes industry, policymakers, education & training providers etc.

Some of the areas which need to be tackled include:

• Rendering the sector more attractive
• Coordinating with education & training providers
• Exploring reconversion opportunities.
