nucleareurope discusses new nuclear et ENLIT Europe conference
On 23 October 2024, nucleareurope Director General Yves Desbazeille participated in a panel discussion on the topic of new nuclear, in the framework of the ENLIT Europe 2024 Conference.
After presenting the conclusions of the recent “Pathways to 2050” report, which shows that additional nuclear capacity would allow the EU to decarbonise faster and at lower costs while ensuring security of supply, Yves detailed the current challenges and opportunities for the development of new nuclear.
Stressing the importance of addressing some key bottlenecks in terms of financing, supply chain, and workforce mobilisation, Yves added that the objective of 150GW of installed nuclear capacity was attainable.
“Nuclear will play a crucial role to support the EU’s transition to net-zero, and the implementation of enabling measures from policy-makers, industry, consumers, civil society, regulators and trade unions can support the development of additional nuclear capacity across Europe” concluded Yves, highlighting the importance of new nuclear projects for Europe.
