ESMRPP holds workshop dedicated to financing SMRs

​On 9 November 2023, Workstream 3 of the European SMR Pre-Partnership (ESMRPP) organised an event dedicated to financing SMR developments in Europe. This event brought together representatives from the nuclear industry and financial institutions in order to discuss ways of financing the deployment of SMRs.  

During the workshop both lenders and investors shared their views on the financing of SMRs. In addition, a series of case studies highlighting recent approaches to financing nuclear were also presented.  Participants were also given the opportunity to share their views on what a conducive SMR investment framework could look like. In this respect, the view of financial community confirmed that this includes:

• Policy support
• Predictability of the revenue stream 
• A clear licensing timeline 
• Access to funds 
• Government guarantees
